The True Hope Collister expansion addresses the pressing need for space within a growing congregation while preserving the character of the historic church. GHm Architects has designed a thoughtful addition, including a new gymnasium, classrooms, and a strategic reconfiguration of the 100-year-old original interior. Tasked with creating an affordable solution that also meets the city’s evolving zoning code, GHm faced the challenge of expanding within a densely populated area with limited flexibility. To ensure the new structure complements rather than overwhelms the modest chapel, the expansion is set back from the street, maintaining the church’s welcoming presence while providing much-needed functionality for its community.
